The RWHA, together with QEST, was delighted to collaborate with The Illustrated London News (ILN) on their publications to mark the Coronation, and to be featured together with Warrant-holding companies.
The Illustrated Coronation Edition, published in the run-up to the Coronation was the first of a pair, the second being published post-Coronation, which drew on ILN’s unique archive having been the world’s first pictorial magazine and an authoritative reporter of national celebrations.
ILN also commissioned a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III – the first since he ascended the throne – which featured on the front cover. Painted by QEST Scholar, Alastair Barford, in just two weeks from a study and photos of His Majesty at work at a global biodiversity reception at Buckingham Palace, it is the first painting of The King where the artist was able to observe the Monarch first-hand.
50p per copy sold went to QEST.
