Winsor & Newton

Antiques, Art & Conservation

In 1832 chemist William Winsor and artist Henry Newton brought science and art together to offer an unprecedented quality and brilliance of fine art materials. Over the centuries, Winsor & Newton has developed unique materials for some of the world's greatest artists including William Turner
Many of the products first introduced since 1832 have revolutionised artistic practices by producing innovative new products such as the first collapsible paint tube or new pigments such as Aureolin and Chinese White. As Colourmen they were at the cutting edge of colour theory and were the first to publish the composition and permanence rating of their colours since 1892. Another innovation was adding glycerine to watercolour pans so that they can be soluble at the touch of a wet brush.
