The firm Wilson & Son was established in 1864 as pianoforte dealers and repairers. Prior to that they were cabinet makers. Over a period of time they became a full music shop selling sheet music,records,violins,cellos and all stringed instruments. In 1950 they were granted a royal warrant for piano & harpsicord tuners to the late king.

James Mackie started as an apprentice in piano repairing and tuning in 1954. This also included repairing all types of musical instruments such as violins,guitars,gramaphones,pianola pianos as well as rehairing bows.

In 1969 James Mackie became owner of Wilson & Son and was granted the royal warrant for piano & harpsicord tuners to H.M.The Queen. He was joined in the business by his son David in 1978,and the company now specialise in refurbishing,polishing and tuning pianos as well as stocking a selection of reconditioned upright and grand pianos.
