In 1888, George Safford Parker was a young teacher at the Valentine School of Telegraphy, Janesville, Wisconsin, USA. To increase his earnings he took a part time job as the local representative of the John Holland Fountain Pen Company. It was this part time job which gave George Parker his idea which triggered the chain of events that was to lead to a multi-national world-wide operation.
